Manufacturers are no longer supporting your OS. Are you ready?

As manufacturers stop support of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 is your organization ready to embrace Windows 10? If you need a roadmap, start here.

New PC hardware will no longer support Windows 7 or 8. This news comes from a Microsoft announcement related to its support policy. Any new PCs that use next-generation Intel (Kaby Lake), AMD (Bristol Ridge), and Qualcomm processors must use Windows 10.

On new PCs, at best, the older operating systems will not receive new updates. At worst, the OSs may not function at all.

Microsoft reports there are now 400 million active devices running Windows 10. Does this include your enterprise and all of its devices? Do you have a plan for Windows 10? If not, now is the time to create your Windows 10 roadmap, especially if your business plans to purchase new hardware soon.

  1. Know plans for new equipment including new hires. What are the hiring plans at your business? Will the new hires get new equipment?  Do you have a normal hardware turnover where new equipment is purchased?  Determine if your IT team can support new equipment and if it will be compatible with applications.
  2. Are your current apps ready for Windows 10? Do you know what apps you’re currently running? Are you prepared to test all applications in your company in Windows10 prior to upgrade? Do you have a tool to manage upgrades?
  3. Is your current OS environment as secure as it could be?  Windows 10 provides a foundation for protection against modern threats and continuous management while enabling your users to be more productive.  The many new features can help you further secure the environment and identify any threats as they appear on your network.
