GLEN ELLYN, IL. February 13, 2015 – Tom LaMantia, Managing Director, Magenium Solutions, was recently appointed to the NUvention: Web+Media Advisory Board. The board is part of the University’s Farley Center for Entrepreneurship + Innovation (FCEI) that was endowed in 2008 to help evolve engineering beyond the application of the sciences to the creation of businesses that capitalize on innovations. The center serves as a resource for students, faculty, and alumni from across the university.
FCEI brings together faculty from a number of schools to develop courses where students experience the entire innovation/business life cycle - from ideation to prototyping and business plan development - to create innovative curriculum like NUvention which offers courses in creating web, medical, energy, and social impact companies.
In the NUvention: Web + Media two-quarter capstone course, students work across disciplines and Northwestern schools to design, plan, and run web-based businesses. Project areas include iPad/Tablet App, Mobile Applications, New Media, Social Gaming, Twitter or Facebook Apps, eCommerce/Deals, Analytics, Cloud, Big Data or ideas from students in the program. Teams are able to continue to work on their projects after the completion of the course. Past NUvention: Web teams have gone on to make TechCrunch, PCMag, Rolling Stone and GigaOM headlines and join incubators, while others are bootstrapping and building their businesses to this day.
“We are honored Tom excepted our invitation to join the NUvention web advisory board. His years of experience as a technologist and entrepreneur make him a great mentor for our students,” said Mr. Michael Marasco, Director of FCEI.
As an investor and serial entrepreneur, Mr. LaMantia brings a wealth of knowledge to the program. He has built and led multiple award winning National IT Firms in various roles from CEO, CIO, to CTO. His more than 25 years of experience span network engineering and design, designing and developing strategic business applications for Fortune 100 Companies, and serving as an advisor to a number of fortune 500 leaders. He has experience in both the private and government sectors for global applications, network design and engineering, enterprise software distribution systems for client server technology, state of the art imaging systems, custom mobile applications and ERP design and deployment. Tom is also a Board Member of Catholic Education Fund of Joliet and a Board Member of St. Francis High School Fathers’ Club. Tom is a member of The Society for Information Management and the Economic Club of Chicago.
“I’m honored to work with the students. It’s my opportunity to give back, share my talents, and help these young and energetic students achieve success,” said Mr. LaMantia. “They are the next wave of thought leadership.”
